Earth Science Course Description: Science is a way of learning about the natural world through observations and logical reasoning. This year we will focus on Earth Science which will include the study of geology, oceanography, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science.
Grades: Summative: Test/Projects/Quizzes (40%) Tests and projects will be over concepts and vocabulary learned throughout the unit. Students are expected to study all assignments in their green binderl to prepare for the test.
Formative: Labs /Classwork/Homework (50%) Labs are an important component of this class. They may take the form of demonstrations or investigations. Students will complete graphic organizers on vocabulary and concepts throughout each unit in their science folder. Students are expected to keep up with all assignments for the current unit in their green folder. Students will keep a Science Notebook throughout the year in their green binder.
Quarter Benchmarks (10%) A cumulative benchmark will be given at the end of each nine weeks.
Textbooks The students will use Schoology.com with folders for each unit that will contain vocabulary and other resources for that topic. Each science classroom will have science textbooks which stay in the tables. Students are expected to have a binder which will be their Science Dictionary.
Agenda The agenda is extremely important. Students will note daily work and homework. Tests will be noted usually a week before they are given. Agendas will also be used to note deficiencies in behavior or work that has not been completed.
